Microsoft has recently published Windows 11 preview build 22489, giving Windows 11 Insiders on the Dev channel reason to rejoice. 

Microsoft presents a new settings page that will provide all of the information a user would most likely require, among other upgrades, repairs, and adjustments.

The new configuration page

This functionality will be rolled out gradually, according to Microsoft, and will only be accessible to a select group of Insiders. You can see whether you’re a member of the group by going to Settings > Account.

Installed Apps and Advanced Settings have been added to the Apps & Features area, which has been divided into two new pages.

What changes have been made in Windows 11 Build 22489?

  • Error 0x00000001 occurred during the installation of Xbox Game Pass games, however this has since been resolved.
  • InvalidOperationException was thrown by Get-winevent in PowerShell (Issue #60740), however this has already been addressed.
  • In the previous few flights, there was a high-impact mousocoreworker.exe crash.
  • The text layout in notification buttons has been enhanced in circumstances when there is both an icon and text.
  • The Get Started app will no longer crash when you delete the Tips app.
  • On prior releases, there was an issue that caused some devices to bugcheck with SYSTEM SERVICE EXCPTION upon updating, however this has now been resolved.
  • On boot, some users received an unexpected “bad image” error message, but the problem has been resolved.

Issues that have been identified

General

  • Under the main Windows Update Settings page, this build features links to Windows Update, Recovery, and For Developers. To check for updates, you’ll have to click on Windows Update a second time. These URLs will not be available under Windows Update under settings for Recovery and For developers, and will be handled in a future release.
  • Users on the newest Dev Channel ISO who are upgrading from Releases 22000.xxx or earlier to newer Dev Channel builds may see the following warning message: Flight Signed is the build you’re attempting to install. Enable flight signing to continue installing. If you see this notice, hit the Enable button, restart your computer, and try again with the update.
  • Screen and sleep timeouts may have been decreased for certain users. This is to see whether shorter screen and sleep timeouts have an influence on energy use.

Start

  • In rare cases, while using Search from Start or the Taskbar, you may be unable to input text. If you run into this problem, click WIN + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box and then shut it.

File Explorer

  • In this release, renaming objects on the desktop does not work correctly. Try renaming the file using File Explorer>Desktop.

Taskbar

  • The taskbar flickers when you change input methods.
  • Tooltips show in an unexpected area when lingering over the Taskbar corner due to a bug. Microsoft is presently working on a solution to this problem.

Search

  • After clicking the Search button on the taskbar, the Search panel may not appear. If this happens, open the search panel again and restart the “Windows Explorer” process.

Quick Settings

  • The volume and brightness sliders in Quick Settings aren’t appearing correctly, according to several Insiders. Microsoft is looking at the problem.
